Necessary
Body. Mind. Spirit.
Today is my boy’s 11th birthday. As per too many birthdays, he is laid up with the flu. As is his sister & father. Not a very fun week! :) But momma is keeping her head high… better days are coming.
I’m reminded when trying to get him to take his meds, how many times we fight getting well. He hates the flu meds. “We have to do what’s necessary to get better” I say. As if I have such wisdom. A finger pointing right back at me. We must do what is necessary to take care of our bodies. We must do what is necessary to take care of our minds. We must do what is necessary to take care of our spirit. Even if it tastes bad. Especially when it tastes bad.
Until the race is over, every day is our birthday. We begin again. And do what is necessary to be well. Because YOU are necessary.
“Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” -St. Francis of Assisi
“He suffers more than necessary, who suffers before it is necessary.” -Seneca
“It is necessary for that one to increase, but for me to decrease.” -John 3:30 LEB
